RASPBERRIES–the taste of summer direct from the Adelaide Hills.

Berry niceWith the late start to summer and the Christmas rush over the berries are now at there best. The raspberries along with their cousins, the English gooseberries, black currants ,and red and white currants are all ripe and dripping with flavour. All the berries are grown using biodynamic methods in a cool spring fed valley. We take the same care in picking our berries as we do growing them. This ensures only the best are sold. We don’t sell seconds for a couple of reasons-(1) the way they are grown and picked and (2) we do all our own value adding.

Our berries are only available from our farm shop which means they have travelled no more than 300 metres. While we are picking, people drop in to the farm tNirvana shopo buy berries. It is nice to stop picking for a few minutes and chat with regulars who enjoy buying directly from the producer. We receive direct feedback and the visitors take away high quality, fresh, biodynamic food.

Our farm shop is unique as it only sells our produce, fresh fruits in season and value added products made from our own fruit by Deb - 20+ varieties of jams and preserves to choose from Plus a range of Deb’s baskets hand crafted from materials growing at Nirvana and roadside weeds.

Nirvana Organic Farm is 5 kilometres from the Adelaide GPO the way the crow flies but for those who do not fly take the Stirling exit off the South Eastern Freeway , turn right at roundabout and travel 3.5 km to 184 Longwood Road HEATHFIELD. or check out your street directory UBD 157:G7 .

We are open Daily 9-5 during the berry season.

As the raspberries fade the Black Mulberry harvest begins.

My Little Veggie Hanger

by Sadge, at Firesign FarmAfter seeing yesterday's post from my co-writer Amy, I now have serious pot rack envy. I could really use the cupboard space freed up by hanging a few pots and pans, for food storage instead. The ceilings in our house are so low, though. Even a pot rack with a very low profile might be more in the way than useful; maybe look too cluttered. I think I'll tape up some paper

Apple Confirms White iPhone 4 for Spring 2011

New sings around Apple Store in the US has a text “The white iPhone 4 will be available spring 2011″ on them. Previous rumors told that Apple actually killed the whole white iPhone 4, but this now brings new life for it. Let’s see if they this time can actually release it, or if they’ll again postpone it.

Apple Ups Q1 Shipment Expectation to 21 Million Units

According to Taiwanese components suppliers, Apple will ship 21 million iPhone 4s in Q1 2011. This is up from 19 million that they expected to ship earlier. The regular iPhone 4 makes 14-15 million, while the CDMA iPhone makes the remaining 5-6 million.

As I make many different cheeses, and post video tutorials about how to make them, I thought that in this post that I would show everyone how to wax a cheese.

Pruning Saw

In either case, a pruning saw might be the tool for you!I fall into the second category: I'm a gardener who's limited by a serious space shortage, which means I can only keep a handful of essential hand tools. I loved filing, I loved writing notes and memos, I

Pineapple Cranberry Salad

Here's a great Pineapple Cranberry Sauce recipe someone shared at Dr. Fuhrman's Member Support Center: cook 1 package of cranberries with 1 can of crushed pineapple until the berries pop. Stir in 2 tablespoons agave, maple syrup, or date sugar (to taste, we liked it a bit tart), 1/4 teaspoon almond extract, and some chopped pecans.

We enjoyed this as a side dish at Thanksgiving, but I love it even more as a salad topping, mixed into a salad with chopped apple and pecans. I packed us whole apples to slice into the salad at lunchtime, so they don't turn brown.

The gel-cool bentos are filled with Fennel Cucumber Salad from my first book, garnished with a kalamata olive. (BTW, the side dishes fit perfectly in the top compartments of our To-Go Ware containers, even with the lids on, but I've ordered large stainless steel sidekicks for the future, because I prefer them to plastic.)

P.S. This picture sucks! You can't even see the cute little smiley faces on the apple picks holding the olives. Oh well, I was running out the door this morning and took it with my iphone. Bad shmoo!

Mirror Image Acorn Squash Supreme

Hi! Long time no post! A lot of changes have been going on in my life, not the least of which is that I now aspire to the label "nutritarian" rather than vegan. That transition has been happening for a long time, as anyone who's followed me in the past or spoken to me personally probably knows.

For example, I would no longer pack Oreos or potato chips in a lunch box just because they contain no animal products. Vegan does not automatically equal healthy. I would also not turn down something that contained a modest amount of an animal product if it were the healthiest choice available. I don't believe that animal products are unhealthy in the amounts that would have been present in humankind's natural diet before SAD came along. Rather I think of modern processed foods as the enemy: white flour, white sugar, oil, etc.

I wanted to go on record with this because I've kept pretty quiet about it out of fear, and I'm tired of living in fear of being who I am openly and honestly, 100%. I fully support and admire Voracious, the once-vegan blogger who shared in this now-infamous post about the health problems she experienced on a strict vegan diet. That took a lot of courage. I can relate, and I think that when being vegan becomes more important than listening to your body, or when it becomes a "vegangelical" fundamentalism that leads to actual death threats against those who don't agree with you, it has become something unhelpful, unkind, and unworthy of us.

That doesn't mean that I will be changing the fact that all the lunches I post here contain no animal products. I mean, I did write two vegan cookbooks and stand behind the idea that most of our meals should be entirely plant-based for optimal health.

And speaking of "coming out", let me also add that my divorce has been final for almost a year and I'm now with a beautiful woman that I love very much! For the first time, I'm in a relationship with someone who not only supports and encourages me, but also likes the same foods that I do and has transitioned to a mostly-nutritarian diet alongside me. It's amazing to be with someone who doesn't make fun of my food or hightail it to McDonald's when she sees what's on the table. Instead, she's loved all the dishes I've made so far and is even surprised that some of her long-standing health problems have gone away with this new way of eating.

We have a deal that she makes breakfast for us, usually a green smoothie or maybe oatmeal with fresh fruit, and I pack lunch. Today I packed us each some Acorn Squash Supreme from Eat To Live and big fresh salads with salsa for dressing and half an avocado each. I added a pear for a snack or dessert.

I even used a pear cozy!

The potentially devastating news that chestnut blight has been found in north eastern Victoria puts all chestnut growers on edge. In USA it wiped out the entire industry in 3 years!

Chestnut blight is a fungus that enters through wounds in the bark. Which is a real worry for us as our trees are regularly smashed by the neighbour’s unmanaged Stringybark's.It grows underneath it causing a canker which will girdles and kills the branch above the infection point. The disease can kill the tree if the trunk is girdled by a large canker or several cankers growing together.

The first signs of infection is often seen as wilting, yellowing and death of leaves and shoots.Yellow –brown to orange cankers on young smooth  barked trees or branches may also be early signs of infection.

The fungus is spread by animals (especially humans in this global village) that come into contact with the cankers and through the air after rain. If you suspect anything  or need more information contact www.planthealthaustralia.com.au

Chestnut blight occurs in Japan, China, Korea, USA, Canada, Italy and throughout Europe. It infects chestnuts, oak, red maple, shagbark hickory  and eucalyptus.

Best Arm Hair Removal Methods For Women

Best Arm Hair Removal Methods For Women

Arm hair for some people is a big problem and they would rather not have it there to begin with in the first place. Models, athletes and many other individuals do not like having hair on their bodies at all. Many of these people have already taken hair removal treatments to make their careers and personal lives easier.

You can have smooth beautiful arms. Read these ways to remove your arm hair.

    * Shave your arms using a quality razor and sweet smelling shave cream. This option seems like an obvious quick fix, but like all hair removal techniques; it does have it negatives. Some people report that hair grows in thicker after shaving, while others do not. It can be messy and there is the possibility of nicks and cuts. Some people prefer to trim hairy arms instead. However, this could make your arms look even worse.
    * Try a depilatory hair removal creme. The same cremes you use for your legs, might work for your arms as well. One downside to this method is that many people report skin irritation caused by the chemicals.
    * Use a hair bleach to make darker arm hair appear less noticeable. While you won’t remove the hair, this is yet another alternative to shaving with a razor.
    * Try one of those new hair removal mitts or buffers. While this method is often less effective, it does exfoliate the skin. This method may work for those with thinner hair that can be easily rubbed away.
    * Laser hair removal is now a very popular form of hair removal. This can be very effective for many people, but also can be very painful and expensive.
    * Waxing or sugaring can be an affordable choice for hair removal. It can be done at the salon or at home. As with many hair removal options, it can painful. Some people report ingrown hair challenges with this method, but overall it can be a very effective method. Some people have even used duct tape to rip out unwanted arm hair, but this can be very dangerous and painful.
    * Purchase an electronic shaver. The electronic shaver you use for your legs could work well for your arms. Although this is a temporary hair removal method, it may be a better option for those who do not want the risks associated with using a traditional sharp razor.
    * Buy an electric or battery operated epilator. An epilator rips hair out and is one of the most effective ways to remove arm hair. It is also one of the most painful methods, but the results may be worth it. Hair will take time to grow back in, and may grow in thinner over time, as with waxing.
    * Ponder the idea of combining methods to achieve smooth hairless arms. Consider purchasing an electronic shaver that can also be used as an epilator. Or, try waxing once a month at the salon and touching up at home with a hair removing buffer. Use the links on this page below to research more hair removal options for your arms.

Always test a hair removal technique first as a precaution.

Native American Indian Art and Symbols

Native Americans traditions remained strong over the centuries. Traditional dances are performed by men and women. Every costume is unique and is made by a dancer itself. Dance represents a story. Men usually tell a story about hunt, step by step. Women dancing mirrors the role of woman in the society. Most famous is so called grass dance. By watching you have to get an illusion that the dancer is floating in the air and is not hitting the ground.

Both the men and women have the same number of hairs, but the men’s hair are denser and darker due to the presence of male hormone testosterone in their body.

Other Solutions for Facial and Body Hair Treatment

Waxing is the easiest and most convenient way for removing hair and can be done at home with ease. Waxing pulls the hair out from below the top layer of skin and leaves your skin smooth. In waxing, a thin layer of melted wax is applied to the skin in the direction of the hair growth. The wax is then pulled off quickly in the opposite direction of the hair growth, taking the hair with it.

In the sugar form of waxing, sugar is used instead of wax to get rid of the hair from face and body. Sugaring is easier to apply and easier to cleanup the mess.

Tweezing and threading are considered to be the safest method of removal of unwanted hair but these are extremely time-consuming.. Tweeze eyebrows using a sharp, clean pair of tweezers. Place a warm damp cloth over the brows for 5-10 minutes before plucking to soften the area or tweeze immediately after shower.

Bleaching is a good option if the hair is dark but not dense like those on the upper lip or other parts of the face, neck and arms. There are many options for facial bleach products at the drugstore or on the Internet.

Mix six per cent hydrogen peroxide with household ammonia or ammonia water. For each 10 drops of ammonia mix 15 gram of peroxide apply immediately after mixing. Leave it for 20-30 minutes. If the result of first application is not satisfactory, repeat it the next day.

Shaving is mostly used for legs and bikini line, but the hair grows back too fast after shaving. Also the skin becomes red after shaving or even red bumps can develop. You can use a shaving gel for sensitive skin and apply a solution containing 1 or 2 aspirins in 1/4 cup water with cotton. The anti-inflammatory properties of aspirin cures the redness or red bumps even when applied to the surface of skin.

You should never shave on dry hair. Wet hair is soft and easier to cut. It is myth that shaving increases the rate of growth of hair. Note that shaving does not change the texture, color, rate of hair growth and hair density which depend on hormones.

Depilatories use calcium hydroxide and sodium or calcium thioglycolate which dissolve hair. But it involves severe irritation and/or burns to the skin and eyes for some people. There fore, depilatories should never be used for eyebrows and on broken skin. First test the depilatory on your arm to check for allergic reactions. Hair comes back in a few days after application because depilatories remove the hair on the surface.

Electrolysis use electric current to remove hair. Electrolysis is considered a permanent hair removal method because this technique destroys the hair follicle. The technique, however, needs repeats and thus costly.

There are two types of electrolysis devices are in use: the needle epilator and the tweezers epilator. The major risks of using electrolysis include electrical shock, infection from a non-sterile needle and scarring caused by improper technique.

Home electrolysis kits are also available. But because these use very low voltage, they are not very effective.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is superior to other forms of hair removal but is not permanent and it can include skin discoloration (either darkening or lightening of skin), swelling, inflammation and infected hair follicles
